Hypro State Championships 2025

We returned to Beverley for the Hypro State Arena Championships.

The event was hosted by the Perth & Avon Working Sheepdog Club at their home ground on the property of Edwards Ag, Anna Edwards, who kindly supplied the sheep for the event.

We were visited by some of the top trialers in Australia who entered the event as a warm-up for the upcoming 2025 Dogpro Plus Supreme Championship which will be held in Northam next week.

The event started on Saturday and ran through to Tuesday to coincide with the start of the supreme event.

The weather was pleasant enough on the weekend changed to rain and thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday.  The event was stopped for a while to allow a thunderstorm to pass.

The sheep brought the challenge to the dogs, starting their runs nicely enough then stopping on the bridge to battle with the dogs.  Many dogs failed to get the sheep past the bridge and those that did had luck as well as good management on their side.

Some of our eastern states visitors were a little shell-shocked after producing some very good work only to have it unravel on the bridge.

Simon Leaning’s Marionvale Di 167 points won the championship beating out Grant Cooke’s Grassvalley Bluey 151 points.

Both Simon and Grant will be representing WA at the Ted Gaby Interstate challenge next week.  They will be Joined by Ken Atherton who stepped up to replace an injured Peter Gorman.  Good Luck team.

The Improver event was won by ex-pat Dave Lacey and Akoonah Roxie 67 points from Bailey Knight and Bails Treasure along with Simon Leaning with Marionvale Pete both on 60 points.  Dave will be representing Victoria and Bailey representing Queensland in the Ted Gaby Interstate Challenge.

Grant Cooke and Grassvalley Grace on 60 points won Novice event from Bailey Knight and MGH Lucy on 57 points.
